Rick is an OG member at CrossFit Montrose. I still remember when he first started the gym, and we had one extra Founders shirt in a size XL. Rick was concerned that the shirt was too small, but didn't want to pass on the opportunity to get his hands on one, so he bought it and decided to make it a goal shirt to fit into it one day. Well a couple days ago (this is a year later) I saw Rick in that shirt and he was swimming in it. The shirt that he once hoped he would be small enough to fit in, is now too big. Rick has had an incredible mental and physical transformation and we couldn't be happier for him. He means so much to us and to this gym. Here are some questions for Rick and his answers. He is a great person to kick off our first member spotlight.
When did you first hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience like at CrossFit Montrose/First WOD?
I visited a friend who had been doing CrossFit for several months. He had some old injuries that, for the first time in years, were just a memory and he was in the best shape of his life. Doing things that he was once told he would never be able to do.
On the way home from his house, we saw the CrossFit Montrose sign being installed. Seeing the sign and my friend’s excitement, I went to CrossFit.com and found a CrossFit videos series “Killing the Fat Man”.
I watched the video series several times, the open announcements and any other CrossFit Videos I could find. It took a couple of months to pull the trigger and go from couch to Crossfit.
My first WOD was 5/4/14 at the (Flash WOD 9am):
Shoulder to OH (95/55)
Front Squat (95/55)
Bar Facing Burpees
How many days/week do you CrossFit and what is your normal class time?
5 days per week @ 6AM

Tell me about your sock game…do you prefer ankle socks, mid, or high socks?
Ankle socks. I only go high socks for extra power.
What accomplishments are you most proud of (outside or inside of the gym)?
That I am still enjoying working out!
